Garden Tool Racks: Is a Garden Tool Rack Organizer the answer?
Gardren tools scattered all over the place? Yep this is be a big problem faced by most gardeners at some point in the gardening season. Sad to say but we're not all organization freaks, I know I'm not any way and I'm always looking to fix the problem. Having to many Garden tools isn't a bad thing but when they are hard to get at, working in the garden becomes a chore not a pleassure.
How can this problem be overcome?
Well there are a lot of different ways to organize your garden tools. The key is to pick the Garden Tool Rack that fits your needs and the area you have to work with. The importance of organizing and storing your garden tools properly are simple; ease of access, save time searching for them, and longer garden tool life.
Hanging Garden Tools - Most small hand garden tools have holes in the handles to make hanging easier. A good solution for your hand held garden tools is a wall mounted garden tool rack system made from peg board or a metal garden tool rack that has lots of hooks. Most bigger garden tools can still be hung up, these garden tools can be fliped upside down and hung from the working end. Don't over look your garden hoses and electrical cords.
Garden Tool Shelving/Basket Racks - Not all Garden Tools where made to be hung up. Some are just to bulky, to dangerous (chainsaws) or they come in with lots of attachments. Garden Tools like these are best organized on shelves or in basket racks on the wall of your garden tool shed or garage. When buying free standing garden tool rack make sure it has baskets for the odd stuff. A free standing garden tool rack won't handle some heavy tool like chain saws but will manage most garden tools.
Garden tool carts are also an option. A garden tool cart is a great complement to any other storage method you pick. It provides extra storage space for your garden tools, as well as makes transporting your garden tools to the garden easier.
Locations where garden tools can be stored:
Garages and Sheds are the most usual places to store your garden tools. Lot of gardeners live in condos/apartments or in flats, so what are they do? For apartment/flat/condo gardening a small wall mounted garden tool rack or a free standing garden tool rack that will fit on thier gallery/deck/patio tucked into a corner may be the best solution .
Most gardeners don't need a big garden storage shed, but if lucky enough to have one all the better. They can be expensive, and do come in many sizes, from something that tucks up against the house or a stand alone shed. You can select from a wide variety of metal, polyvinyl or wood storage sheds, keep your budget in mind and you can also look for second hand sheds too.

What style of Garden Tool Racks is right for you?
Do you want a free standing garden tool rack system or hang your garden tools on the wall with a garden tool rack organizer? Your space and location will be the deciding factor here, but either way you will want your garden tools neat, tidy and organized. So pick either a wall mounted garden tool rack or an umbrella type garden tool rack. There are many different styles available for purchase from home improvement stores, garden centers, and on many websites online.
Both types of garden tool racks, either wall mounted of free standing offer different storage solutions. Each type or style is designed to hold a range of different tools, so take a look at what you have first, remember you will most likely be adding new tools as your garden evolves -- can it be adjusted or added to and grow with you?. A garden tool rack with larger spaces or slots is best for full-sized rakes, shovels, hoes, and cultivators etc. Some models use clips of differing sizes to hold your tools nice and snug. What about the small stuff? Hand tools can't be over looked either, some garden tool rack systems offer storage for both large and small with a few hooks for string, ties and electrical cords.
Hanging Your Garden Tool Rack Once and Safely!
There are a number of methods when it comes to hanging your garden tool rack. Many are solid units which are hung directly on the wall with anchors so it won't fall with all the weight, Make sure when ever possible to locate the anchors where the wall studs are (16 inches on center). With others, you will mount a pegboard on the wall of the garage or storage shed first and then add clips, baskets and hooks to hold your garden tools. If you chose a free standing garden tool rack make sure it is on even ground so it won't topple over and if your worried placing some extra weight at the bottom with a brick is a good idea or a safety cord hooked to the wall.
Building a garden tool shed might be another option if you have the space, if you live in a flat or apartment yo will have to stay small with one tool rack or a free standing garden tool rack. With a separate garden tool shed you can use to store everything, like mowers, hoses, electrical cords, extra plant pots etc.Use them the same wall mount garden tool racks but here you can add more shelving, clips to hang all of your tools and baskets around the walls. Store extra fertilizer, mulch, or rocks until you’re ready to use them. You’ll totally love having everything you need in one place and you won't go nuts looking for stuff. However the garden tools won't put themselves away.

Garden tool rack; neat and clean
Garden Tool Racks need some TLC too.
Clean a garden tool rack? Interesting thought. Personally I wonder if people would ever think of doing such a thing. I don't think it's high on peoples to do list, 'better get to cleaning that garden tool rack today'. Though I jest, it really isn't a joke. If you want your garden tool rack to last a good long time whether it's made of metal, wood or plastic, keeping free of dirt lessens the wear and tear on garden tool rack. Lots of thing can accumulate of a gardening season, leaves, dirt, oil and even a few spiders.
So what do you need to do well not much really. First remove all you tools from the garden tool rack ( the end of the season is a good time to clean your garden tool rack). With a good stiff brush you can remove most of the dirt that has fallen off your garden tools. You can also give it a hosing off with the garden hose if it's a free standing garden tool rack, or vacuum it. Wipe up a drops of oil that may have dripped off of your garden tools, such as pruning shears. Wooden garden tool racks may also need a coat of paint to stain to keep them fresh looking. If you have a garden tool shed you should also give it a tidy, empty it out, swipe, check your tools and organize as you put stuff away.
A good thing to do while you have all the garden tools out is to check your garden tool rack for any damage, cracks, or broken pieces and fix the garden tool rack if needed. You can also check your garden tools too; sharpen your shovels(yes yo should keep the sharp), and do any other maintenance. See if anything is missing too, is it under the bushes or did you lend it to someone?
